I’d be lying if I said these prayers were never half-whispered from my lips. Dear Lord, can I win the lottery? Dear Lord, can I live forever? Dear Lord, can my teeth be less weird? (Okay, admittedly, I continue to pray for a nicer smile!) the point is, we all pray for what we THINK we need, not necessarily what we actually need. If I did win the lottery, would I invest in humanity or invest in an impressive garage? I’m fearful of the thought.
The title for this article, may be somewhat contradictory. Many reading this possibly couldn’t comprehend why a person would choose anything over significant affluence. The majority judge people by the size of their wallet, not the size of their heart. I also fall victim to this view, the number of times I Google ‘famous person’s net worth’ is shameful. Like their only contribution to society is an abundance of cash.
Without further digressing, I’d like the opportunity to say why I feel considerably wealthy. Disregarding the materialistic, (although I am truly grateful for a roof, a fridge full of food and just enough finance to allow for my habitual reading addiction!), I live with the knowledge that my mistakes are forgiven, without resentment or retribution.
Two comments by close friends that have had a lasting impact, which I will share with you now. The first were concerned I had lapsed/relapsed with drugs. Because of how noticeably more content my aura has been. I responded that I am experiencing euphoria; however, this is due to acknowledging I have been Saved. That I can have a relationship with God.
The second, after I explained my new life plan/calling (I’ll share with you, in due course, lovely reader!), they said how amazing it must be, however there was a large degree of jealousy (healthy jealousy, I must add!). I will never force anybody into conversion (I will gladly talk if this is something you may be interested in!), but I would wholeheartedly encourage a life where nothing is too ambitious!
The Golf I drive will get me to the same destinations as the person who owns a Lamborghini (slower, but still the same!). The semi-detached house I possess will still keep me as warm as the person with a luxury 9-bedded. And my Pokémon wallet holds the same notes as a Gucci one.
Will people Google my name followed by ‘current net worth’ in years to come? Unlikely, but despite being at my lowest in financial terms, I’ve never felt so rich.
