No commission in religion.
Before finding faith, I would be perplexed by churchgoers’ relentless enthusiasm to convert. The misleading trap of ‘free Bible Studies’ to heathens and sinners like me, in exchange for signing my entire being to a Higher Power where there’s no full scientific proof of existence. No, I’ll keep my energy for drug consummation, thank you very much.
Now I’m at a completely different angle, in that I love when people present an opportunity to talk about how grateful I am for ‘signing my entire being to a Higher Power’. Here’s why.
As Christians, it’s not that we receive double life points for referring a friend. We don’t get freebees for signing up to Heavens monthly newsletter. There’s no ‘TripAdvisor’ review that allows for life hacks or complimentary thanks from God. So, why do we do it? You ask.
I do not speak on behalf of any other Christian here; to answer this question I will express my own approach. For me, it goes far beyond finding common grounds with the people (you!) I love. Yes, it’s nice to message and say “hey man, feeling really blessed today, you alright?” or “mate, I’m feeling low today, can you pray for me?”, but these are not the complete reasons.
I want you (yes, you!) to go to bed with gratefulness in your heart. To waking energised because you’ve got a purpose. A calling. You’ve got excitement flowing through your bones. The suffering you’ve gone is halved. The blessings you have are doubled. So that once we’re done in our life, and together we’re ordering a coke in heavens restaurant with the angel serving, looking at us, then politely saying “it’s Pepsi, is that okay?”. We’ll be together.
Finally, you can be thankful that this Power… who died for us (with human emotions! Feeling pain, sadness, fear…) understands our gratitude.
The point I’m (very) slowly reaching is a simple one. Usually, we want to share our zest for life with you, so you can share our euphoric joy at knowing there’s a much, much greater reason for our being.
Thank you and have a blessed weekend!
